This year in Art 1 I learned a lot. I hadn’t taken an art class since I was in 4th grade. My strongest area of art class was definitely clay. I struggled in the areas of 2-D drawing and painting and I think it was because I couldn’t comprehend the creation of dimension in a 2-D space. With clay I was able to see the dimensions and my attention to detail allowed me to create clean and successful projects. My favorite and most successful project this year was the final project of constructing the fairy houses. As I previously explained, I enjoy clay more because I am better at it and I think it is more fun. The project that I learned the most from was the one point perspective projects. Dimension of drawings really helped me with my drawing it terms of scenery. It wasn’t one of the best projects, but I still enjoyed it. The tape projects were very fun compared to the one point perspective lesson. I think I showed a lot of growth in drawing this year between the candy wrapper drawings to the figure drawings. I was more successful in the layering of the scale drawings therefore it showed growth. One piece of artwork that I have a personal connection to is my calligraphy piece because the way I put heart into the project to later give it to my sister is how it relates to me.
If I could offer and additional feedback for this course, I would recommend doing more clay because I love clay. Also keep the fairy house project as the final project because it is a fun summer project. For lessons like colored pencil layering that are more difficult, have in depth lessons (step by step) like the one point perspective lesson. Art adds color to the world and can even have hidden messages in some pieces. Art has impacted my life because it is a fun class to escape to from my other stressful classes.
